About the Artist
Born in Italy and raised between Pisa, Rome, Lucca, and Florence, I developed an understanding of art and architecture not as distant museum pieces, but as a living presence woven into everyday life.
In these historic cities, Etruscan, Roman, Gothic, and Renaissance masterpieces are encountered simply by walking their streets, where cultural heritage remains an integral part of the contemporary landscape.
The Subjective Dimension of Beauty
The Subjective Dimension of Beauty (Alex Meucci, 2025–2026) explores the evolution of aesthetic thought from the ideals of Hellenic beauty to the pluralistic perspectives of the modern world.
Ancient Greek culture regarded beauty as an objective quality, grounded in harmony, proportion, balance, and order—an inherent and measurable attribute of both nature and human creation.
Over time, particularly from the late nineteenth century onwards, this notion was increasingly challenged by modern artistic and philosophical movements, which shifted the focus towards subjective experience.
In this view, beauty, meaning, and value are no longer universal constants but emerge through the unique perceptions, emotions, and cultural contexts of each individual.
At the heart of this collection lies the belief that reality is shaped by ideas and concepts in a continual state of transformation. As human consciousness evolves, so too does our understanding of beauty.
Through this ongoing metamorphosis, beauty becomes increasingly diverse, inclusive, and open to interpretation, reflecting the ever-changing relationship between the observer and the observed.
